Wrapped in School Spirit

Posted by Texas A&M School of Law on Jul 5, 2021 1:10:37 PM

Judge Matthew Wright ’08 got the idea to create a law school quilt when he realized that no one wanted to purchase his lucky shorts and shirt.

He had tried selling them during the Rosebud 100+ City Garage Sale — a local market where one can find everything from fried chicken to live chickens, and from unidentifiable junk to valuable antiques. Even at $0.25 per piece, no one wanted his ten-year old oversized shorts and shirt.

As Wright prepared to donate his unsold things, he just couldn’t let go of the outfit. It had been with him during the best — and worst — of times. His affinity for this particular ensemble started through the power of laziness. Comfortable and easy to clean, he could grab them directly out of the dryer bypassing the hanger and folding.

TAMU Law Alumni Board president provides update

Posted by Texas A&M School of Law on Feb 22, 2021 1:21:42 PM

Howdy! I’m honored to serve as the president of your law school’s alumni board of directors. As you are well aware, COVID has changed our world dramatically and made everything – including alumni relations – incredibly challenging. It was a pleasure to see those of you who joined us for the Dean’s Briefing last month. During the event, I was able to provide an update on the accomplishments of the alumni board.

Back in August, we sent a little love and encouragement to the 2020 Bar exam takers in the form of an Aggie Law business card holder for their future desk. We also included a letter letting them know that those who had gone before them were sending their support.

In the Fall, we hosted a fun, historical webinar about Hell’s Half Acre for alumni and the rest of the law school community. Starting in the 1870s, this was the name for the portion of Fort Worth where the law school now sits. It was known for saloons, brothels and other vice dens into the early 1900s.

We have also partnered with the law school’s career services department to provide alumni mentors to students.  It has been particularly helpful as both the classes of ’20 and ’21 have or will be entering the workforce during a pandemic.

The board is also in the process of finalizing details on an alumni legacy awards program that will feature a way to honor our exceptional graduates during a yearly signature event, which will hopefully begin in the fall of ’21.  The board is also working to create a panel webinar for recent graduates to learn more about the pathways to different law careers.

The Aggie Network in action

Posted by Texas A&M School of Law on Sep 16, 2020 4:13:55 PM

Recent Aggie law graduate Charles Inclan ’20 came to Texas A&M School of Law from Presbyterian College in South Carolina. Though he’d heard some rumblings of what the Aggie Network was about, he was unprepared for how soon it would impact him. During his second year of law school, he was coming off the heels of on-campus interviews and reaching out to firms. He was fortunate enough to receive a phone interview with Kirkland & Ellis LLP. His phone interviewer was Aggie Steve Schwarzbach ’06, a Georgetown Law alumnus. Steve showed a deep interest in the Texas A&M Law School and the success of Aggie law students. Charles and Steve spoke at length about the rising quality of students and, more importantly, the distinctive character of the students at TAMU Law.
