The Texas A&M School of Law Alumni Board has established a new scholarship honoring Lynne Rambo, who retired from the faculty in 2020. The Professor Emerita Lynne Rambo Endowed Scholarship will be awarded to qualified students who embody excellence and dedication to legal education.
Professor Rambo’s academic career spanned 23 years. She joined the Texas Wesleyan Law School faculty in 1997 – and taught Constitutional Law, Evidence, First Amendment, and a Supreme Court seminar.
"The law school is proud to recognize Emeritus Professor Lynne Rambo with this endowed student scholarship," said Robert B. Ahdieh, Vice President for Professional Schools & Programs and Dean of Texas A&M School of Law. "Professor Rambo's commitment to her students is a cornerstone of her legacy, and we are so pleased to see that legacy carried forward to future Texas A&M Law students, through this scholarship."
Professor Rambo’s service spanned various phases in the law school’s development, including Texas A&M University’s acquisition of the law school in 2013. Upon her retirement in Spring 2020, she moved to New Jersey, where she currently resides on her farm. She was widely admired by her students and was known for her enthusiastic teaching style — both in and out of the classroom.
“It’s extremely humbling and I’m deeply honored to have this scholarship named after me,” Professor Rambo said. "If there were any one thing that I could give to this law school, it would be scholarships.”
Other law school colleagues highlighted her leadership, passion, and dedication to developing new legal minds.
“Professor Rambo was an early adopter of the law school and saw the need for and the potential of the school in its early years,” said Lynne Nash ‘95, ‘16, President of the Texas A&M University School of Law Alumni Board. “She is known for doing what is right, leaning into learning, and giving to others when they need her. She is a teacher to her core and loves her own family and the family she has created over the years, consisting of students and colleagues alike.”
The new endowed scholarship is like coming full circle, said Professor Rambo. She referenced her own collegiate experiences as a scholarship recipient and recognized the significant role a scholarship can play in a student’s life.
“There’s a real need to bring in people who wouldn’t otherwise have access, and this is exactly what scholarships do,” she said. “I hope this resource allows for some weight to be taken off students. Law school is a bit of a marathon and the less we can have people worrying about money, the better.”
The 2023 Texas A&M Alumni Legacy Awards Reception will be held Saturday, October 21. Professor Rambo will be in attendance. Net proceeds from the event will help fund the endowed scholarship.
