Lynn Rodriguez, TAMU Law Legal Clinics staff attorney, will receive the Tarrant County Volunteer Attorney Services (TVAS) Attorney Mentor Award later this month at the Tarrant County Bar Association Pro Bono Awards Luncheon. The award is given to the attorney who volunteers his/her time to organize, attend clinics and mentor attorneys providing pro bono services.

Karen Roberts Washington, adjunct professor at Texas A&M School of Law, was recognized for her mediation experience and quality by being inducted into the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN).

According to NADN, Washington is an experienced lawyer, having handled cases in state and federal courts across a broad spectrum of issues. She is also a highly-skilled mediator, having mediated more than 1200 civil disputes.

Texas A&M University School of Law Professor William Byrnes introduces a 2,000-page, two-volume treatise published by LexisNexis, titled Practical Guide to U.S. Transfer Pricing.

Charlotte Ku, Texas A&M University School of Law professor and director of global programs, was recognized for her commitment to global, legal education with a Global Legal Skills Award. The award was announced at the 14th Annual Global Legal Skills Conference in December.

On October 25, 2019, Texas A&M University School of Law brought together several leading patent scholars to examine the latest domestic and international legal developments at the "Pharmaceutical Innovation, Patent Protection and Regulatory Exclusivities" Symposium.

Earlier this month, the Scottish Government announced that it will commence a public consultation in 2020, seeking the views of the general public, key stakeholders and other interested parties on proposals for increasing the consistency and use of mediation within the civil justice system in Scotland. 

This announcement was made in response to the June 2019 report of an Expert Group approved by the Scottish Government to conduct an independent review of mediation in the civil justice system.  The Expert Group was led by leading Scottish mediators and involved representatives of a wide range of interests.  Professor Nancy Welsh met with the Expert Group in February to discuss the U.S. experience with court-connected mediation.  The Expert Group’s report, Bringing Mediation into the Mainstream in Civil Justice in Scotland, cites Professor Welsh throughout. 

Texas A&M University School of Law Professor Bill Henning, who is a Life Member of the Uniform Law Commission (ULC), has been appointed to serve on the joint ULC/ALI Study Committee on the Uniform Commercial Code and Emerging Technologies. The committee’s charge is to study the entire architecture of the UCC to determine whether amendments to the text or comments are necessary in light of emerging technologies (e.g., distributed ledger technology). The committee met in October, in Denver, and decided to divide the study into six subgroups. Professor Henning is co-chair of the subgroup examining issues related to Article 9’s treatment of electronic chattel paper.

The purpose of Texas A&M University is “to develop leaders of character dedicated to serving the greater good.”  The School of Law’s Aggie Dispute Resolution Program has taken this purpose to heart.
